  3. Dear Richard, Matt & Amy, Holly & John, Isabel, Griffin, and Jack:

My heart is aching with you over this painful separation from your precious wife, mother, and grandmother. My prayer is that God will be very close to each of you, assure you of His love and care, and put a healing balm on your broken hearts.

I am so grateful that Sherri embraced God‘s free gift of salvation through Jesus, because I have the wonderful assurance of knowing I will see her again!
“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time!” 2 Timothy 1:9 NIV

Sherri’s journey over her last years was a difficult one, fraught with so much suffering. But because of God’s unfathomable gift, she’s no longer in pain, has no more unanswered questions, has no more confusion, and no more fear. She’s, right now, experiencing something that is far beyond anything she could’ve ever asked or imagined— and it’s all in the very presence of our loving Creator and Lord!
Sherri was, to me personally, a much-loved and admired older cousin. I looked up to her and in many ways, aspired to be like her. She was beautiful, smart, talented, and caring, and she possessed a bright, cheerful personality that made her so much fun to be around. I loved hearing her talk about her life (it always seemed so interesting) and most of all, I loved listening to her play the piano. I longed for that same talent and even tried piano lessons for a while, but either my talent, my commitment, or both, fell far short, so that hope was never realized. (Perhaps she will teach me to play when I join her in heaven!) She made such an impression on this younger California cousin that I even secretly longed to have a cool Texas accent like hers. : ) As a child I looked forward to our long drives to Texas each summer to gather with our wonderful extended family (our fathers, Elwyn and Norris, were the two youngest Fulfer brothers). We would often gather at their mother’s home in Matador. We would listen to our parents reminisce late into the nights and when Sunday morning rolled around, we would all share one bathroom and then walk the short distance to church together. Although I was one of the youngest of the clan, I always felt like I was part of something big, important, safe, and wonderful, and that a big ribbon of God’s love bound us all together. I will be forever grateful for the legacy of love and faith in Jesus that our parents left for us!
After I grew up, Sherri and I were able to share our lives on a more adult level and our times of connection, although fewer, became far richer and sweeter. We shared our hearts and prayed for one another and our families.

Sherri loved her family deeply and was extremely proud of each one of you! She adored you, Richard, and also Matt and Holly and your precious families.

May that legacy of love and faith live on through your lives, and may the Lord bring you deep comfort and healing.
