Sam D. Baker
Sammie Doyle Baker was born May 30, 1927, and passed on to glory on Sunday, July 10, 2016. He was 89 years, 1 month, and 11 days. Sam was 32, 549 days old. He was dad, daddy, Papa, Sam, or Sammie. Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Visitation: One hour prior to service. Interment service for the family will be in the Everman Cemetery following the service. As a teenager, he was a Merchant Marine in World War II and was a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Korea during the conflict there. He was a longtime educator and administrator in the Fort Worth ISD. Sam was a poet, an athlete, and a Believer. In his 60s he became a runner, competing in area 5K’s, 10K’s, and half-marathons, winning over 160 trophies and medals. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Evartt; his brother, FM Baker Jr.; and by his wife of 54 years, Carrie Baker. Survivors: He is survived by his sister, Nina Strickland; brother, Donnie Baker; his children, Rhonda Lively, Brenda Womack, Mike Baker and Ken Baker; eight grandkids; 10 great-grandkids; and one great-great-grandchild.
