Sallie Hart Kendall
Cleburne–Sallie Key Hart Kendall, a retired public school teacher, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Cleburne, Texas. Graveside services for Mrs. Kendall will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Cleburne. Mrs. Kendall was born February 6, 1905, in Parker, Texas, to Drew Kennard Hart and Cornelia Williamson Hart. Sallie was the granddaughter of Miles Hart of Parker, Texas, and the great granddaughter of Meredith Hart of Rio Vista, Texas. She attended the Parker and Cleburne public schools and Decatur Baptist College and received her Bachelor of Science degree from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas and her Master of Education degree from the University of Houston, in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Kendall taught in the Freeport, Texas, public school system from 1930 through 1965. She was a charter member of the Brazos Heritage Society and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for fifty years. She married Clyde Peter (C.P.) Kendall in Parker, Texas, January 31, 1942. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Freeport, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, seven sisters, two brothers and one nephew. Mrs. Kendall is survived by nephews, Leon Bowen and wife, Mary Lou, of Cleburne, Texas, Bill Bryant and wife Karen, of Henrietta, Texas, Mark Hart and wife Adele, of Fort Worth, Texas, Don Gustke, of Granbury, Texas, Charles Hart, of Fort Worth, Texas and Carl Gustke; Nieces, Betty Rich, of Denton, Texas, Nancy Benningfield and husband, John, of Kerrville, Texas, Harriet Hart, of Houston, Texas, Marjorie Seiber and husband Herb, of Mission Viejo, California; great and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of friends and former pupils.

    Jr. High in the early 60’s as well as my

    cousin Newt Spiller.

  2. Mrs. Kendall taught me Texas history, English, and declamation when I was in seventh grade. She was quite competent and insisted on discipline, brooking no nonsense from anyone. She also believed in social etiquette. I will always be indebted to her for her positive influence upon my life.
