Mary Winchester Jennings
AZLE — If you look to the heavens tonight you will see a bright new star. Mary Winchester Jennings, 92, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at a Fort Worth Hospice. Graveside service: 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 19th at Evergreen Cemetery, Ballinger, TX. Memorials: Salvation Army ARC, 2901 NE 28th Street, Ft. Worth, TX 76111 or Community Hospice of Texas, 1111 Summit Avenue, 4th Floor, Ft. Worth, TX 76102 Mary was born May 14, 1920 in Lometa, TX to O.T. Burton and Minnie Estel Neal Burton. She married Jack Winchester in 1936 and was a wife, mother and homemaker until his death in 1951. In order to keep her family together and to take care of her young children, she went to work at the local theaters and took in ironing during her spare time. Later, she went to work doing what she knew best, cooking. Mary was a restaurant cook in the Midland/Odessa and Ft. Worth areas until she was 80 and retired due to health. She would often comment on how she wished she could still work. Mary enjoyed working in her yard and watching the birds. She loved to quilt and gifted many family and friends with these handmade treasures. What she cherished most in life was her family and her time spent with them. Mary was an amazing role model and example for each family generation. She was the matriarch of 5 generations. Mary was preceded in death by parents, Otho & Estel Burton, husband Jack Winchester, sons Ricky Jennings & Neal Winchester, daughter Juanita Evartt, grandson Tracy Strickland, siblings Opal Brooks & Buster Burton. Survivors: Children: Jack & Carolyn Winchester of Ft. Worth, Stella & Guy Stanton of Azle and Billy Jennings of Ft. Worth, Grandchildren: Kelli Strickland, James & Donna Stanton, Jason & Tina Stanton, Tim & Natalie Winchester and Jennifer & Brian Bell, Great-Grandchildren: Nichole & Jay Cudd, Kasyne & Justin Bradley, Danny Stanton & Ashley Young, Samantha Stanton, Isabella Winchester, Olton Strickland, Will Stanton and Lauren Winchester, Great-Great Grandchildren: Cayden Cudd and Michael Stanton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
