Martha Ava Lee Shimkus
Martha Ava Lee (Weaks) Shimkus, 77, a loving mother and grandmother passed away quietly with her family present in the early morning hour of June 13th, in Crowley, TX. Funeral arrangements are through Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home located at 12301 South Freeway (I-35), Fort Worth, TX 76028.  Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday, June 14th, with the family present.  Funeral services will be conducted at the Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home’s chapel on Friday, June 15th starting at 1:30 pm.  Graveside services will follow in Glen Rose, TX at the Lanham Mill Cemetery at 3:30 pm.  Additional information is available and condolence messages may be left at www.mayfieldkiserfuneralhome.com. Ava Shimkus was born on April 1, 1935 in Somervell County, TX during the depression years.  She spent her childhood on the banks of the Paluxy river and graduated valedictorian of her 1952 Glen Rose high school class.  After working as a medical secretary for several physicians, she returned to school and earned her Associate degree with honors in Accounting from Tarrant County Junior College.  She retired as a Tax Accountant from Deloitte and Touche.  In 1992, she met her soul mate Donald Shimkus and they married a year later in Crowley, TX where they shared almost fifteen wonderful years together. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, Lonnie & Nellie Weaks, one brother, Leland of Glen Rose and one sister, Violet Garrison of Stephenville. Survivors:  Brother, Ross Weaks of Trent, TX, Sons, Larry (Elaine) Smith of Llano, TX; Zane (Brandee) Orr of Dallas; Daughters, Corinne Davis of Italy and Chrys (Tim) Weyer of Crowley and Stepson, Sam Orr of Austin, TX.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ava Lee was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.  The family requests any memorials be sent to the Community Hospice of Texas, www.chot.org.
