Margery Lavon Roddahl
Margery Lavon Askerooth was born January 25, 1931 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  She left her earthly home on August 24, 2010 in Burleson, Texas. Margery grew up in Battle Lake, Minnesota, daughter and only child of Earl Andrew and Helen Markle Askerooth.  She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1948 and worked side-by-side with her parents in their business ventures, a restaurant and a movie theatre, as well as others.  She worked for the local doctor and was a wonderful nurse before she met and married the man of her dreams Vern Allen Roddahl. They were married in Washington, D.C. April 25, 1955.  Together they began a family with her son, Jeff, adding a daughter, Suzanne Renee in June 1956.  As a family they traveled the world following Vern in his rewarding and glorious USAF military career, living in many of the US states and in the Far East, all serving our country with integrity, dignity, respect and caring. Marge was an accomplished homemaker, “feathering” so many new nests she often remarked she might run out of feathers.  She was renowned for her homemade cinnamon rolls and never let Vern leave for a hunting trip without at least a dozen. Marge was the epitome of and Air Force Officer’s wife and was engaged in many Wives Club charity and social events, all the while supporting her husband in his career.  She was involved in the Welcome Wagon in many communities and was always eager to bake and cook for new neighbors and friends. Marge was very active in the Girl Scouts organization as a leader with her daughter and taught, influenced and guided many young women with grace, charm, love and care.  She could camp with the best of them and was a wonderful teacher in the kitchen and home arena.  She was always supportive of her son’s athletic activities, rarely missing a game.  She also overcame her fear of horses to share in the showing of Suzanne Renee’s horse while living in Cheyenne, WY. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, caring for her family and entertaining friends, along with bowling and taking rides in the country with her husband.  She and Vern built their final home outside of Burleson, TX in 1987, where they transformed their raw lot into a nature wonderland, welcoming all kinds of wild critters, even taming a squirrel affectionately named “Naughty, Naughty” who sat in our lap and enjoyed her special spoiling of ice cubes in water in the Texas summer along with the box fan on the back patio. Marge loved life, her husband, children, family and friends sharing her compassion, empathy and courage with all. She was sorely missed by her husband of 55 years Vern, until his recent passing, 09/14/2012 and continues to be missed by her surviving children, Jeffery Lee and Suzanne Renee. We love you Mom and miss you always!
