Lela Laverne Williams
EVERMAN — Lela Laverne (Tump) Williams, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away August 11, 2011 at the age of 95. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Everman. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Interment: Everman Cemetery. She was born on April 10, 1916 to Annie Leta Reese Watts and Abner Eugene Watts in Bell County. She married Alvin Kennedy (A.K.) Williams on June 1, 1935 at The Flat, in Bell County. A.K. and Laverne moved to Everman on April 10, 1946 and joined First Baptist Church in Everman shortly thereafter. Laverne worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a window clerk in Everman for 27 years. She and A.K. enjoyed camping with family and friends, tending to her flower garden and looked forward each spring to getting started with new plants. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, grandson, Michael Sparks, son-in-law, Bill Sparks, brothers, Bill, Dick, C.J. and John; and sister, Nita. Survivors: daughters, Glenda Williams Sparks of LaPorte and Rita Williams Morgan of Everman; grandchildren, Randy Sparks and wife, Nancy, of Houston, Kyneth Sparks and wife Cindy, of San Antonio, John Sparks of LaPorte, and Michele Rogers of Haltom City; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Arlie Watts of Waco; sister-in-law, Dot Watts of Temple and a host of nieces and nephews.
