  1. So sorry for his family
I worked with Johnny for a shot time. He was a terrific guy and will be missed dearly.
God be him and his family.

  2. To the sons of Johnny,
Johnny and I worked together for a while. In that period of time I found him to be an intelligent, intense, and fun person to be around.
I recall telling him we shared something together. He was a graduate of Sul Russ State University and Sul Ross was the only college that recruited me in high school. He thought that was really funny.
Johnny was a quick study and was able to understand, interpret correctly, and work within our department’s laws and rules. One case involved the improper drainage connections at a home. He quickly discovered that the method of connection to a single drop had failed.
During his tenure with our department he was permitted to work from home which was in Orange County, Texas at the time. He was leasing a home that was at the top of a hill from his former maid. The home appeared to have been built in the 1920’s or 30’s and had some foundation issues but it didn’t bother Johnny who was known to be frugal with his finances. The front porch overlooked a tree line. Johnny told me that beyond the tree line was the State of Louisiana boundary line. I would tell him “you live on the end if the earth” and he would laugh.
The last I heard about Johnny was that he was living in Georgia and he moved to Tennessee where he purchased a 2 acre property with an old school house. As I understand he started to collect automobiles that he housed in the school’s gymnasium
This was the unique and fun Johnny that I got to know in this short life we all journey.

  3. I knew Johnny for the last32 years of his life and have spoken to him on the phone two or three times a week on average for all off that time. We have been best friends, both living near each other and eventually separated by distance,he in Jacksboro and I in New Braunfels. When we lived near one another,we would go camping together or I would go to his house and he would cook for me. He loved to cook and was really good at it. As my best friend, Johnny was always there for me, either in person or by phone, Johnny always had an encouraging word for me when I was down and made me feel as if I had a big brother in him. The last time I saw Johnny was in 2009. He came to visit me when I was living in Alvin, Texas. It was so good to see him and we both relished the company of each other, both of us having lost many of our friends to untimely deaths. Johnny was family to me. I spoke with Johnny Saturday, the day before he died. He sounded ill to me and I asked him how he was doing but Johnny just said he was OK and was going to bed. Johnny had some medical problems but never complained about them. He just shouldered them himself not wanting to burden even his best friend. I will miss Johnny more than I can say. My deepest condolences to those he leaves behind.

  4. Sorry to hear of Johnny’s passing or thoughts and prayers are with you all.
