Hugh Wendell McFarland
Hugh Wendell McFarland, 88, was called home to be with our Lord on June 3, 2015. He passed peacefully at home in Joshua, Texas.Wendell was born to Brooks (Grandaddy Mac) and Jennie (Granny Mac) McFarland on June 27, 1926 near Aledo, Texas on the old McFarland Ranch. After graduating from Fort Worth Tech High School in 1943 he went on to serve in the U.S. Military with his 2 older brothers, Leo and Louie, in World War II as a Corporal in the Company “B” 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Philippines. In November of 1948 he married the love of his life, Kay Modisett, with whom he enjoyed the next 66 years. Wendell loved The Lord and for 63 years was a devout member of Morning Side Baptist Church in Fort Worth, which later became Hallmark Baptist Church. He loved working with his hands, which he put to great use as a machinist at his final place of work, Putoma, for 26 years before retiring in 1991.Wendell’s number one pastime was spending time with his family and friends. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially his garden, but also had a great appreciation for relaxing in his recliner and drinking iced tea after a hard day’s work. He was well known for his giant hands, but will be most remembered for his gentle heart. Wendell never let an opportunity pass to help someone in need – family or stranger – and never asked anything in return. Our Papaw was all of these things, but most of all he was a role model to his family and many others. Because of the giant shadow cast by his love and spirit of encouragement the world is a better place.Wendell is survived by his wife Kay McFarland of Burleson TX, and two adoring sons: Charles B. McFarland and wife Janie of Burleson TX, James (Mike) McFarland and wife Jan of Joshua, TX; 9 grand children; 19 great grandchildren; sister Eveline Emery of Fort Worth TX; and a host of nieces and nephews.Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please donate to the charity of your choice.

  1. Papaw will forever be in our hearts. He was someone when you met, you never forgot. There are not enough words to describe how much we loved him. God be with all his sweet family and may they feel the love of God and his presence all around them, comforting them now and the days to ahead. Blessings and prayers.

  7. Kay, I am so sorry for your loss but know you have peace that Wendell is with his Saviour and his body and mind are healed. I know you understand that I cannot come to either service as it has only been two days since I had my son there. They are probably getting acquainted with one another and telling fish stories. Love to you and your precious family hope to see you soon. Take care of yourself. Love, Betty J

You were truly blessed to have such a great dad, and his integrity is evident in you two sons.

  11. I really enjoyed the video tribute depicting the loves of Mr. McFarland’s life. Absolutely beautiful slideshow. I could never hope to have something that sweet to show at the end of my time here on earth. Praise God for a wonderful husband and father and grandfather and more as evidenced by the photo tribute.
