  8. My big sister, Hazel Lorraine Byrd Hall, was a wonderful lady and I loved her very much. She was an amazing person and accomplished so much in her 95 years. She grew up in hard times working on the farm driving the mules behind a plow, chopping cotton and picking cotton among other things. Being the oldest of 11 children, she was given much responsibility for overseeing the rest of us. She made her living from packing fruit in Mission, TX to picking cotton in West TX,to cooking in restaurants, running her own restaurant, cooking at the Texas State Chest Hospital and finally in the early 1960’s going to Nursing School and becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She began her nursing career at Methodist Hospital when it opened in the 60’s in San Antonio. She retired at the age of 70 but still worked part time until she turned 80. She was a wonderful nurse and had found her calling doing that work. We were all SO proud of our big sister, Rusty, as we affectionately called her. We also are eternally grateful that she mirrored what it was to be a Christian in her life so that the rest of us learned the importance of coming to know Christ as our Saviour. We will see you in Heaven one of these days, Rusty!!!
    Love,
    The Little Sister,
    Norma
