Glen Thomas Tidwell
BURLESON — Glen Thomas Tidwell, born January 7, 1923 in Glenwood, Arkansas, died peacefully at home Sunday morning, December 5, 2010, surrounded by his family. Funeral: 10 a.m Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Chapel at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the funeral home.  Interment: Burleson Memorial Park Cemetery. After serving in Europe in the U.S. Army during World War II, Glen married Louise Morgan; this September they celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. In the 40’s and 50’s, Glen had a western swing band, the TW Ranch Hands, which performed throughout northern New Mexico. His life took a different turn when he and his wife joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  He was an active church member, serving as lay pastor, deacon, elder, and Bible teacher until his health no longer allowed his active participation. Although Glen had “retired” from the music business, his love for music continued throughout his life.  He and Louise, then later their children, grandchildren, and friends sang for church to the accompaniment of his beloved Martin guitar; they entertained at parties, weddings, and nursing homes.  He laughingly called the group the “Tidwell Family Singers and Whoever Shows Up.” As his family grew, Glen’s heart opened wide for each new member.  Weddings gave him new children and grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart. He firmly believed that each grandson should know how to play golf, and he made sure that each had his turn for early-early morning golf lessons at Mountain Valley Country Club where he was a member. He ensured them that if they practiced EARLY and kept their heads down they too could make holes-in-one as he had done. Until his retirement, Glen was the owner of Glen Tidwell Motor Company in Joshua.  It was not unusual for a visitor to walk into Glen’s office and find him joking with friends, singing, or studying the Bible. In fact, he was known to some as the “missionary car dealer.” Glen is survived by his wife Louise Tidwell of Burleson, his daughters Patricia Hart and Janet Tidwell of Burleson, and Debbie Lauterbach of Fort Worth, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren with two more expected soon.  The newcomers will meet their great -granddad in heaven—how happy he will be to hold them and initiate them into the Tidwell Family Singers and Whoever Shows Up. In lieu of flowers people are invited to make a donation to Burleson Adventist School scholarship fund or to the charity of their choice.

  1. Dear Louise & Girls, my heart goes out to your for the loss of your very special family member. The obituary says it all and brings memories I have of Glenn (and you) singing for church or at your home. He will be missed, he was a great man with a tremendous sense of humor and more importantly his love for the Lord was present in everything he did. My sincerest condolences to all of you. 2. One of our first memories of Glen was when he accompanied our daughter, Jennifer, with his guitar, as she sang at the Burleson SDA church. He only had to listen to her sing a couple of stanzas and picked up the song right away. He will be truly missed.
    John 14: 1-3 and 1 Thess. 4: 13-18 are a comfort at a time such as this.
    Love,
    Joan Philbin
