Winifred Wheaton
Wynn Wheaton lived life to the fullest, often with a golf club in her hand. She lit up a room with an engaging personality and even bigger smile. When she wasn’t playing golf, the 86-year-old was shopping at Kohl’s, laughing with friends and family or vacationing wherever the weather was warm. Wheaton was born on July 7, 1924 in West Allis, Wis. She was the youngest of four girls. Wheaton was a bookkeeper by trade and while she worked at a defense plant in West Allis, she met future husband Philip Wheaton. He proposed on Christmas Eve, and they married on May 28, 1949. The couple had three children: Andrea, Ward and Guy. She lived in Cutchogue, Long Island and was a frequent visitor to her favorite par-3 golf course. She also loved spending time with her twin grandsons. She visited Texas every Christmas. One of her most important jobs was to check to see if Santa had put the presents under the tree while her granddaughter anxiously awaited the answer. She later made Texas her permanent home. Wheaton quickly showed off her short game at Lake Arlington Golf Course. She also volunteered at Medical Center of Arlington and manned the counter in the gift shop. She is preceded in death by husband Philip and son Ward. She is survived by sister Lorraine Fox, of Wautoma, Wis.; son Guy Wheaton and his wife Judy, of Sayville, N.Y.; daughter Andrea Morris and her husband Michael, of Arlington; and grandchildren Kelly Morris and Christopher and Andrew Wheaton. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. April 27 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (5819 West Pleasant Ridge Road) in Arlington.
