Thomas King Cone III
Decatur, TX – Thomas King Cone III a.k.a “Bruster Jones” died peacefully on March 12th, 2022 after having too much fun for 78 years. Tom was born in Dallas, TX to Thomas and Helen Cone on October 6th, 1943. Tom is preceded in death by his wife Susan Kay Cone. Tom is survived by his son King Cone (Andrea); his brother Michael Cone (Mary); his grandchildren Thomas “Cinco”, Andy, and Charlie. Raised in Dallas, TX, Tom attended Jesuit High School before taking a stab as a ranch hand in Grand Junction Colorado. After a couple of cold winters, he returned to Dallas to pick guitar for several blues bands until being drafted into the Army during his early twenties. Following his discharge, Tom bought a service station, remodeled homes, worked on hotrods, and raced motorcycles until eventually settling into the banking industry in the early ’80s. It was during this time that he married Susan Abbott. Tom outkicked his coverage with Susan, who he was married to for 35 years before her passing in 2011. In 1982 they had their only son and shortly thereafter moved to Decatur, TX to begin a small cattle operation. In the years to follow, Tom would partner with his son (King) and long-time friend (James Doggett) in various music and financial service ventures. In 2015, at the age of 70, Tom became a member of the Tejas Vaqueros and decided to pick up team roping. He was very proud to be a Vaquero and cherished his resulting friendships. Tom had a knack for seeing potential in people and encouraged everyone to step out and try new things. He was candid and not always well received, but if you liked him . . . you loved him! He was a loyal husband, an incredible father, and an exciting man. A memorial service will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1305 S Deer Park Rd, Decatur, TX 76234 on April 2nd, 2022 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Cowboys 4 Heroes in honor of Tom Cone. Link for donation – https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTQ2ODA1
