Suzan Hurley Cogswell
Suzan Hurley Cogswell, 60, Burleson TX, joined the angels on February 20th, 2015 after a weeklong heroic battle with an aneurysm and stroke. A viewing will be held at Mayfield-Kiser Funeral Home on Wednesday February 25th in Burleson TX from 6 – 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday February 26th at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Fort Worth, TX at 10am. A memorial service will also be held in Ohio during the beginning of March. Suzan was born on January 16th, 1955 in Columbus Ohio to John and Billie Jo Hurley. Her childhood was spent sailing on the beaches of Florida and New England. A graduate of Cornell University, Suzan worked for the state of Ohio and the departments of Mental Health, Education, and Public Safety, as well as the Arlington Police Department in Texas. Over the past few years she had become one of the leading experts in law enforcement’s use of unmanned aircraft. She married her high school sweetheart John “Chip” Cogswell in July of 1981, and spent her life with him making music and serving the Catholic community. Survivors include Suzan’s husband Chip Cogswell, her two daughters Kair Cogswell and Katie Cogswell-Mattern, Katie’s husband Zach Mattern and their daughter Avery Danene Mattern; Suzan’s sister Rebecca Greenwood of Burleson, TX; her brother Phil Hurley of Colleyville, TX; goddaughter McKenzie Mahl; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Suzan was always helping others even in her last moments on Earth – as an organ donor she was able to donate her lungs, liver, and kidneys to save other lives this week. Mayfield-Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson, TX is handling the arrangements: (817)568-8836. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BPAC – Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center. “And when my life is over remember when we were together, we were alone and I was singing this Song For You.” – The Carpenters

  1. Chip and Family, I will always remember Susans’ love, and concern for my safety when leaving church to go home. And I will remember the times when you both would follow me home to make sure I arrived safely. Especially after dark! And, I will remember her enthusiasm when she directed the childrens’ choir at Christmas of 2014. PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL!

  7. Dear Chip and family:

My heart is saddened in your loss. I enjoyed working with Suzan at the Arlington Police Department. We worked the community garden together as well. Her love for the Lord was so evident in her life. She loved sharing stories of her granddaughter. Peace to you in the days ahead.

  9. Chip, Our hearts are broken for the loss of Aunt Suzie. I am thankful for all of the fun memories we have with her. She loved her family and loved to spend time with everyone. So glad we got to spend time together at Broken Bow this past Christmas and laugh and do puzzles. It is such a great reminder to always appreciate every moment and always say I love you. It brings peace knowing that she was strong in her faith and she knew where she was going. No doubt that she is rejoicing with our Savior right now. We love you Chip and Katie and Kair. Praying for a peace that only God can give. We love you Auntie Suzie and you will be missed.
