Visitation: Wed. 6 to 8 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. MEMORIALS: The family suggests donations to the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Crowley House of Hope, or a charity of choice. Scott Pierce Lumpee was born October 8,1959 in Marietta, Georgia to Paul and Janet Lee Lumpee. Raised in El Paso, Texas, Scott excelled in school. He was a leader in his high school FFA, holding various local offices and even running for State FFA President. Scott was also an accomplished debater in high school. His passion for animals continued as he worked summers at vet clinics and raised animals, including rabbits and quail. Upon graduation from high school, Scott proudly pursued his dreams at the college of his choice, Texas A&M. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1982. Scott then went on to veterinary school, achieving his Doctor of Veterinary Science degree in 1984. After his May graduation, Scott was hired by Robert Ables to serve as a vet in Burleson at the Burleson Small Animal Hospital. Kingswood United Methodist Church would prove to be an important component in Scott’s life. It was at church that he met the love of his life, Janet Burkey. Janet and Scott were united in marriage at the same church by Janet’s dad, Rev. Wayne L. Burkey. Scott and Janet enjoyed 27 wonderful years together. Frequent travelers, they renewed their vows on their 25th anniversary at a beach in Antigua. Dr. Lumpee became a most beloved vet at the animal clinic. He worked as a vet for 30 years, becoming the owner of the Burleson Small Animal Clinic in 2001. Dr. Lumpee retired in January 2014. His clients knew him to be a dedicated, devoted and trusted caregiver to their pets. Dr. Lumpee served on the board of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He also served on the board of the Burleson Animal Shelter. Scott and Janet had two wonderful children, Rachel and Daniel. Scott loved attending concerts, plays, ball games, and even those father daughter dances. He inspired his youngsters to work hard and give back. When Daniel married in May of 2014, Scott became a proud father-in-law to Alex. Texas A&M was an important part of Scott’s life. He was a proud member of the Association of Former Students who never missed a football game or giving a kiss to his girl, Janet, whenever A&M scored a touchdown. Scott was thrilled when son Daniel chose to attend A&M, graduating in December 2013 with honors, just like dad. Scott’s professional talent did not overshadow his love of life. He loved cars, especially Thunderbirds. Bird watching became a fun hobby after his retirement. But it was by the water that Scott felt most blessed. He loved traveling to waterfront resorts with Janet. When Scott and Janet acquired the lake house, named the “Lumpee Lodge,” a dream came true for him. Boating and jet skiing were among Scott’s favorite pastimes. Words do not express the totality of a life well lived. Dr. Scott Pierce Lumpee enjoyed his family and his friends. He served others through church and various organizations. Scott was a member of Santo United Methodist Church. He generously gave of his talent and time. Thank you, Scott for your time with us. We love you forever and hold your memory in our hearts. 3. Dr. Lumpee was more than just my animal’s vet, he was a friend. I learned much from him and he cried with me on occasions when I had to put one of my dogs down. He and the clinic have been great supporters of my business as it was growing from nothing with their constant referrals. I feel lucky to have called him Friend.

  21. I met Dr. Lumpee when he first arrived at Burleson Small Animal Hospital under Dr. Ables. He was a wonderful, caring man who kept an open and learning mind regarding the care of animals. Over the years he cared for my many Great Danes and also allowed me to work on my nutrition thesis at his office. He willingly drove miles to come to my home to help our dogs pass over the bridge in the comfort of home and friends. I was sorry to see him retire and sell his practice. He will be very much missed.

  26. Dear Lumpee Family,
We were customers of Burleson Small Animal Hospital before “Dr. Scott” joined Dr. Ables. We were thrilled to have him as our vet and take such loving care of our animal’s. It takes a special person to stand and cry with you because he has to put down your beloved pet and that is what he did with us more than one time. He was a special person and we will miss him. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

  27. Dr. Lumpee was my vet also and he was so kind and compassionate not only with the animals but with us humans also. He taught me how to care for my diabetic kitty, Deedle, who lived for 8 years with this problem. Very long time for a kitty to survive. I can’t thank him enough for that. He was truly a wonderful vet and person and I know how much he will be missed by everyone. God bless you all the comfort you in this time of loss.

  28. Todd did the bookkeeping & taxes for Scott & Bob Ables. After our retirement & move to Rockport, we lost touch. Learned of this sad news on Facebook.
Just watched the wonderful photo video of a life well-lived but, nevertheless, cut too short. Our deepest condolences to Janet & the family.

  29. Dr Lumpee was my animals vet since ’87. There wasn’t a more kind and compassionate person when it came to hurting animals. Many times Dr. Lumpee offered kindness and understanding when there was nothing else that could be done and it made the hurt of the situation less. He was a wonderful person and I will miss him. My prayers and thoughts are with his precious family.

His family definitely has a new Guardian Angel to watch over and guide them. Prayers for all who suffer from the loss of his presence.
