Paul Jurgen von Helms
Paul Jurgen von Helms, a.k.a. “Yankee” was born in Chicago on June 13, 1942 to Johannes and Anna von Helms. He went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2018. Paul was a U.S. Army Veteran and the loving father of Tamara (Adam) Mergener, and Todd (Caroline), and loving grandfather of Tadam and Tarin Mergener, Hunter and Jake von Helms. He was the loving brother of Hans (Virginia), Anna (the late Art) Schmidt, the late Ernie (Ella), Rolf (the late Lorraine), Walter (Holly), Inge (Richard) Heidorn, Helga (James) Conley, and Barbara (the late Paul) Anderson. Paul worked as a brilliant engineer at Brandt Engineering in Dallas for 37 years. He was an avid fisherman, and lover of sports, especially horse racing. He was one of a kind to say the least, and will be missed greatly. The family wishes to thank nurses Patricia Morales, Selena Woods, and Nita Reynolds from Focused Care, and neighbor Frank Curlin for the attention and care provided in recent years. Graveside committal will take place at 10:30am on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas, Texas.

  1. Paul’s friends and family at Brandt are saddened to hear of his passing. Paul was indeed one of a kind. Tough on the outside and soft on the inside. He was a good man and we were lucky to benefit from his leadership here for many years. I would like to offer our condolences to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
