Owen Dale "O.D." Cox
FORT WORTH — Owen Dale Cox, 53, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Service: Noon Wednesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson. Officiating will be his dear friend and chaplain, David Barrett. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Dale was born Oct. 13, 1957, the son of Geraldine and the late Owen D. Cox. On Sept. 16, 1978, he married the love of his life, Marda Trevino. Dale retired as a detective from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, where he dedicated his life in law enforcement, after 30 years. Dale will be remembered by all who knew him as someone who never asked “Why me?” after suffering five strokes last year. His positive attitude, new found passion for shopping, giving high fives to his grandchildren and always having a smile for you when you saw him, proved what a strong and amazing man he was. Survivors: His wife of 32 years, Marda; son, Jason and wife, Rachel; daughter, Alena and husband, Christopher Brown; five grandchildren; mother, Geraldine Cox and sister, Marcia Wilhoit both of Corpus Christi; the Trevino family, who thought of him as a son and brother; numerous nieces and nephews, who will be left with fond memories of Uncle Dale; his extended family, Steve and Winola Roy and their children; and all the men and women he worked with whom he called his “brothers and sisters.”

  1. Marda,

    O.D. was not the average bear for sure! I first met him while I was a dispatcher for TCSO. Always had a flair for telling a joke at what civilians would find “an inopportune moment” but we all understood the pressures of the job. Never heard O.D. complain about anything. He is one of the Good Guys and I hope Heaven has plenty of fresh coffee, he’ll be missed greatly and it was an honor to have known such a fine man. -Jana

Give ’em all hugs and kisses from all of us here and I pray one day we’ll all have a big family reunion in heaven. I will continue to pray for strength and comfort for Marda, Jason, & Alena and that they may find peace in the trajedy of their loss.

  4. We have said alot of prayers over these past 2 years for Dale. Rejoicing that he is no longer suffering, but knowing that his passing is still sad because he is no longer physically here. I’m sure from what Jessica has shared with me over the years that Dale is smiling down at what a wonderful family he had the pleasure of being a part of. And he’s probably laughing at the memories being shared about him. God bless you all at this time.- Mary Ann

  13. A NOTE FROM HEAVEN

    If I could write from Heaven,
    this is what I’d say,
    Please don’t miss me too much,
    I’m with you throughout your day.
    You may not see or hear me,
    but if you’re quiet and still,
    You may feel my presence;
    because, in Heaven, there is free will.
    Don’t worry for the day,
    It will come and go as planned,
    Enjoy each moment you are given,
    keep worry from your hand.
    Keep sorrow to a minimum;
    For if Heaven you could see,
    You’d know I;m safe and happy,
    I did not cease to be.
    Moments in time are brief,
    until we’ll be together again,
    as Eternity lasts forever,
    our lives have no end.

    My condolences to the Cox and Trevino families.

  14. • Marda, there are so many things I would like to say to you and your loving family. However anything I tell you about O.D. you already know and we all agree he was a very good man. I will leave you with what he meant to me though if you will allow me. O.D. was the reason I enjoyed going to work at night in patrol all those wonderful years we worked together. He taught me so much, not by verbal instruction but by his actions and his professional and courteous conduct to the public he served. He was what I believe all police officers should be. I loved him and will miss him dearly. Thank you so much for sharing him with the rest of us.

  15. Marda,
    We are sorry for your loss. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Dale. He will be greatly missed. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. Rest assure you have a guardian angel watching over you and your whole family. God Bless.
