Nilda Mercedes Fontanez was born October 1, 1944 in Humaco, Puerto Rico. She passed away peacefully February 28, 2023 in Arlington, TX surrounded by immense love.
To everyone who knew her she was “Ma”, a title well deserved because she was a Mother to so many. She was the matriarch of our family, with a fierce spirit and a strength that never waivered. A brave heart who loved to go fishing, win big at bingo and make friends out of strangers. Ma left her heart and kitchen open, serving plates full of love. We will miss her sass, smile, and selflessness. Her sacrificial love and commitment to family will be the legacy that we will cherish in our hearts forever.

When I think of Nilda…I think of best neighbor ever, friend, coffee, an amazing cook with a great sense of humor. Nilda was brutally honest, a protector and defender of the most vulnerable; she was reliable, kind and generous. Nilda was a force to be reckoned with an unsung heroine. I can hear her voice and laughter as I think of her; she will live in our hearts forever. RIP Nilda 😥💔❤️
