Michael Cass
Grapevine, TX – Michael Steven Cass passed away Monday, February 14th, 2022 in Grapevine, TX. Michael was a hard worker, a retired soldier, a loving father and grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew him. Michael was born May 7, 1970 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born to Lynda Carole & Louis Devere Cass. Michael lived in Comstock Park, Michigan up until his 18th birthday when he joined the US Army and was send to Baumholder Germany for many years. During his time in Germany, Michael met & married Melanie Fruehauf and his first two children were born: Theresa Marie Cass (1992) and Michael Steven Cass, Jr. (1994). In 1995, Michael and Melanie divorced and Michael returned to Ft. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was during Michael’s time in Lawton, OK that he met his second wife, Tara Michelle. Michael & Tara were married July 5, 1997 and their three children were born shortly after: Taylor Renae Cass (1997), Brayden Devere Cass (1999) and Leannah Kay Cass (2001). During the course of Michael’s 24 year marriage to Tara, the family endured 3 long deployments as a result of the 9/11 tragedies. Those deployments occurred in 2001-2002, 2005-2006 and 2009-2010. During those times, Michael led hundreds of soldiers through many maneuvers and held positions like platoon sergeant and acting Sergeant Major. During the course of Michael’s military service, he was awarded eight army achievement medals, two global war on terrorism medals, one army commendation medal, one national defense service medal, one national defense reserve service medal, one Texas federal service medal, one army good conduct medal, one armed forces reserve medal, one army service ribbon and one overseas service ribbon. Memorial: A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25th, 2022 at Murphy Road Baptist Church, 411 Murphy Rd, Murphy TX at 10:30am.
