Linda Sue (Latimer) Stair
Linda Sue (Latimer) Stair, 69, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, at Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church in Joshua, TX. The time of the memorial service will be 5pm. Linda was born on January 29, 1947, in Brownwood, TX, to Jesse and Olena May Latimer. Her father was a local mechanic and handyman and her mother was a local nurse. She had 3 sisters and 1 brother. She grew up in Bangs, TX, next to the railroad, in a home that her mother and father built. She attended a local public school and the Brownwood church school for her elementary years. For high school, she attended Southwestern Junior College Academy, graduating in 1965. Linda continued to attend Southwestern Junior College for her college years, graduating with an A.S. degree in Nursing in 1968. During her time at Southwestern, Linda met and was pursued by a young, handsome man, named David, who would soon be drafted to Vietnam. He was so smitten with her and he just couldn’t leave without her knowing how he felt, so he proposed to her several times before he left on his deployment in January of 1968. After David was deployed, Linda moved from Keene to Denver, CO, to finish her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, through Union College. All throughout David’s deployment and her schooling in Denver, they wrote letters and made as many phone calls as allowed. One phone call was particularly important, as on that phone call, Linda finally agreed to marry David. She flew from Denver, Co to Honolulu, Hawaii, to meet David, who flew directly from Vietnam to meet her. On September 16, 1969, in the presence of complete strangers, they vowed to take care of each other and love each other for the rest of their lives. After their honeymoon in Honolulu, Linda returned to Denver and David returned to Vietnam.  She began working at the Denver hospital while taking her last few classes before graduation.  While working in Denver, Linda had the pleasure of taking care of the famous Andy Williams. Interesting experiences like this helped to pass the time while she waited for her new husband to return from his deployment. In January of 1970, David returned from Vietnam. He very quickly moved to Denver, CO, to reconnect with his bride, and this is where they lived until Linda’s graduation from Union College in May of that year. After graduation, the newlyweds returned to Keene so that David could finish his Education degree. Linda began her official nursing career, working at the Cleburne hospital.  One year later, on August 5, 1971, they were blessed to welcome their first daughter, Michelle Renee into the world. Linda had quite a variety of experience over her 45 years as a nurse.  After working in Cleburne for a few years, she and her family moved to Duncanville, TX.  She got a job at the VA hospital in Dallas.  While working there, she met Mama Cass. After four years at the VA hospital, Linda and her family moved to Jefferson, TX, where she began working for the Marshall hospital. At this time, in 1978, David and Linda welcomed their 2nd daughter into the world, Kathryn Suzette. After the birth of their 2nd daughter, they moved to San Marcos, TX, where she worked for the San Marcos hospital.  After two years in San Marcos, they moved to Burleson, TX, for a very short time. After a year in Burleson, they were called back to San Marcos. They lived in San Marcos for 5 years. During this time, Linda took care of George Strait’s family. After living in San Marcos, David and Linda moved to Arlington, TX. During their years in Arlington, Linda worked for Arlington Memorial Hospital, Mansfield Hospital, The Catholic Hospital of Fort Worth, and Huguley Hospital. Finally, in 2002, David and Linda built a home in Burleson, TX.  That is when their vagabond days ended. Linda has spent the last 20 years at Huguley Health Systems Hospital, working in Employee Health, and as the “all important” Infection Control Nurse. Linda has had a very busy career in Nursing. She was a typical floor nurse who developed many skills and gained experience in all fields of nursing. Over the years, she was given many awards for her hard work and dedication. Her final position at Huguley Health Systems, gave her many opportunities to write guidelines and codes for Infection Control, many of which are used in hospitals nation-wide. Her dedication to her job and her passion for health, led her to be highly respected amongst hospital circles. Her very last Joint Commission, in 2015, was given the highest award, the BEST Infection Control program that had ever been seen. Besides being a devoted nurse, Linda loved being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was considered a partner in crime, a listening ear, an excellent advice giver, a confidant, a loyal friend, a feisty fighter, an excellent gift giver, and a horrible driver. She was kind, thoughtful, loving, caring, accepting, and willing to give anything and everything she had to whomever needed it… or whomever that didn’t. She knew how to work a room and make everyone feel like they belonged. She leaves behind a host of loved ones and friends who have been impacted by her involvement in their lives.  She will be greatly missed! Linda Stair is survived by her two sisters, Ann Drennan and Betty Hoag; husband, David Stair; daughters, Michelle Stair and Kathryn Anthes, and Kathryn’s spouse, Mark Anthes; 2 grandchildren, Micah David and Eli Matthew; Fur grandchildren, Oliver and Ike, Henry, Oscar and Izzy; and her beloved dog, Mikka. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Olena May; sister, Priscilla; brother, Jerry; and her all-time beloved dog, Piglet. In lieu of gifts, please make donations, in her name, to the Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South’s Auxiliary or Joshua Adventist Multi-grade School (JAMS).
