Henry A. Skoczlas
Henry A. Skoczlas, 92, was called home by God on Friday Sept., 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. He had been living at a Brookdale Senior Community, under the care of their staff and Mission Hospice. Born in Monessen, PA on June 13, 1924, he was the youngest son of the late Alex and Anna Skoczlas. Henry graduated Monessen High School in 1943, served in the U.S.Army in WWII until 1946, then returned to attend Alliance College.. He was married in 1948 to Irene Zubritsky, until 2012 when, after a long illness during which Henry helped to care for her, she went home to heaven. He was a faithful member of St Mary’s Byz.Cath Church in Monessen, a member of the Holy Name Society, the Men’s Choir, and was a dedicated repairman/carpenter for the church. He sang with the Byzantine Diocesan Choir in Pgh for many years. He worked as a cabinet maker/installer, and at Wheeling-Pgh Steel in Monesssen and Steubenville, Ohio. In his lifetime, he enjoyed music, dancing, remodeling, building, repairing, and teaching others these skills. Henry was a dedicated, loving family man, with captivating smile for all. He is survived by a sister, Sally, of California, three sons, Kenneth (Angela), Greg (Ingrid), both of Texas, James ( Jennifer), of Bridgeville, and one daughter, Karen Vaughn of Cleveland, Ohio. He has twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 10 am in St Mary’s Byz Cath Church , 125 McKee Ave, Monessen, to share memories of Henry, then Fr.StephenWahal will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 11am, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St Mary’s Byzantine Church or Habitat for Humanity would be greatly appreciated by the family in his memory.
