Gladys Mae Horne
Gladys Mae Horne,90, was blessed to depart from this life and step into the Father’s embrace on Jan. 30th, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Burleson. She was gently cared for and greatly loved by her “girls” the last 6 1/2 years. Viewing will be held at noon on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home, 12301 South Freeway, Ft. Worth, TX 76134. Services will be immediately following at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Logan Horne, on Monday, February 6th, 2017 at the DFW National Cemetery.  Gladys was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 16th, 1926. She loved to refer to herself as the yellow rose of Texas. Her greatest love was her savior and she gave Him her all at age 8.  She was a great help to her mother, Agnes Hierholzer, in caring for her sister and 3 younger brothers.  Her father, E.J. Hierholzer, was an evangelist.   He traveled and held revivals and at age 14 Gladys began to go with him playing the guitar, accordion, and singing under the tent. A few years later her sister Jennie joined them to sing. Gladys also attended Stamps Baxter Music School and studied with Robert Whit Ford Studio becoming an accomplished gospel music pianist. In January 1946 the Hierholzer’s held a revival in Miami, Florida and there she met a young handsome man named Logan Horne recently returned from WWII. They began to correspond and a year later on July 29th, 1947 they married and remained in love for 62 years. Her life consisted of making a warm loving home and peaceful happy atmosphere for her family, attending church where she was the pianist, teaching Sunday School, cooking and baking, always from “scratch” and sewing dresses for Jan, Ann and herself. She was also known as a prayer warrior and knew how to get a prayer through to God. She was head of the Ladies Auxiliary for some time and also played and sang with the “Heaven Bound Quartet”.  She was greatly admired and loved. Many people referred to her as the red-headed pianist. To Annette and Janet she was the most loving mother two little girls could ask for. She will be greatly missed and remembered lovingly by all who knew her. She is survived by her children Janet Ward, Ft. Lauderdale Florida, Annette Alexander and husband, Randy Alexander, Burleson Texas. Grandchildren: Craig (Genny) Ward, Misty (Tim) Peacock, Ryan (Sarah) Alexander, Rachel (Gary) Lindsey. Eight Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family in Texas and Florida. Surviving sister, Jennie Melton, of Tyler and brother, Charles Hierholzer(Gaye) of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Horne and son Lynn Douglas Horne. Parents: Emil Joseph Hierholzer and Agnes Hierholzer. Siblings: David Hierholzer,  Tany Hierholzer and infant sister Priscilla. The family suggests donations to: Landmark Apostolic Church for missions; 3400 N.W. 94 Ave, Cooper City, FL 33024 or to Community Hospice of Texas at chot.org.
