Doris Jackson
FORT WORTH — With a life spanning more than 92 years and 45 countries of ministry, Juanita Doris Shirley Jackson met her Savior face to face on December 17, 2015. Her life reflected her love and commitment to the Lord, to her husband of 68 years, Dr. W.H. “Dub” Jackson, to her family and her ministry. Funeral: A service in celebration of Doris’ life will be held at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Jimmy Draper will officiate the service. Visitation: Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Doris will be buried at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: Partnership Evangelism, 1712 West Broadus, Ft. Worth, 76115 or Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Attn: Missions and Evangelism, P.O. Box 22500, Fort Worth, 76122. Doris was born into the home of William Lloyd and Jon Nadine Shirley of Anson, Texas on April 27, 1923. As one of five children growing up on a cotton farm during the depression, she developed a caring and serving nature, and a love of the Lord that guided her life’s direction. Her parents instilled into her the value of education and following God’s leading. That leading brought her to Hardin Simmons University where she prepared for a life of ministry and graduated in 1946. As a student, Doris was the secretary of the University’s Baptist Student Union, where her responsibilities grew to encompass those of director, and included organizing evangelistic programs. It was in this capacity that she began to work in ministry with a young, dynamic fighter pilot with a heart to see the lost world come to know Christ. Their partnership became a lifelong commitment when they married on May 31, 1947. During their 68 years of marriage they served as missionaries in Japan, founded three churches there, and helped thousands come to faith in Christ. Through their pioneering efforts, “Partnership Missions” are now an important part of Christianity all over the world. Doris raised five children, eighteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Doris had an ability to make everyone she met feel special. She hosted with grace and honor whether she was entertaining the hotel maid, or a Prime Minister. Her heart was for all people. Survivors: Doris is survived by her husband, Dub; Their children Susan Jackson, Shirley and Randy Roberts, Lynda and Mike Hughes, David and Darlyne Jackson, and Juanita and Steve Hayden; her grandchildren Chris and Sofia Jackson, Michael Jackson, Olivia and Daniel MacDonald, Daniel Karr, Stephen and Tiffany Karr, Ashely and Brad Davis, Craft and Joanna Hughes, Lee and Katie Hughes, Clark and Summer Hughes, Kristin and Michelle Jackson, Jessica and Bob Webster, Stephen and Danelle Hayden, Preston and Stephanie Hayden, and Sandra and Mark Pepin: and her sister Billie Martin and brother Dick and Joretta Shirley; and her great grandchildren Christopher and Jovi Jackson, Kamren and Kaden Karr, Charlie and MacKenzie Hughes, Elizabeth and Emily Hughes, Adelaide and Amelie Pepin, and Quinn Hayden. She is preceded in death by her son, William H. (Bill) Jackson, her grandson, Jered Jackson her brother Henry and Willa Shirley and her sister Lois and Milton Bennett and J.G. Martin. Reflections from Dub: It is a great joy to write down some notes as we give thanks to the Lord for Doris and for almost 100 years of perfect service and commitment to the Lord here, Texas, South Pacific, Asia, Europe and Africa.  Wherever she’s been she has been loved by the people, she has shared with them in a way that they have recognized the Lord’s presence at all times.  There is no lady I have ever known, and I have traveled around the world, that would equal what Doris has accomplished. We thank the Lord for what He’s done and what he is doing and what she will mean in heaven. She will brighten it up, I don’t know how bright it was going to be in the original plans, but it’s going to be increased when she gets there. We thank the Lord for her. Her family loves her, she loves the family, she is committed to service wherever she is. That means then, now, and in heaven. Thank the Lord for Doris and for all she means to all of us. Much Love, Dub Jackson and Family

  3. Doris was a wonderful servant of God and a longtime friend. Her brother Dick and my husband grew up together in Anson, and he spoke highly of the Shirley family. I have had the privilege of knowing her family, also, and I love all the Jackson children! What a legacy! “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
