Boyd A. Larsen
LARSEN, BOYD ANKER, 81, passed away in Weatherford, TX on December 26, 2011. Ashes will be placed at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors at a future date in January 2012. Boyd was born March 11, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas to Marcella and Sven Larsen of Copenhagen, Denmark and was the first generation American in his family. Their family was proud of their Danish heritage, but equally proud to make America their home. Boyd graduated from San Jacinto High School, class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the Army, in Iceland, during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Rice University in Houston in 1954 and attended the University of Houston working towards his Masters until he and his former wife, Sandra, started their family. Boyd spent his career with the Texas Workforce Commission and the Internal Revenue Service, retiring from both. He was a local chapter president and regional president for the Texas Public Employees Association, a Mason and member of the Temple Lodge, volunteered with the ICT Vocational Program of the Spring Branch ISD, was active in the Spring Branch Memorial Chamber of Commerce, and was a member and officer of both the National Treasury Employee Union and the International Association of Employment Security. He loved projects, tools, cars and all things mechanical. Boyd considered his daughter, Karen, his greatest accomplishment in life. He was the most loving daddy a daughter could ever have and always knew how to really listen, despite losing the majority of his hearing during the service. His loving words, her favorite, at the beginning of every phone call or visit, were always “How’s my favorite blue eyed blonde?” His face lit up each time he saw her and every child should have that from their daddy. He relocated to the Fort Worth area in 2006 for health reasons. He enjoyed new friends, seeing his family often and always regretted not coming sooner. Papa Boyd adored chocolate ice cream, especially when delivered to him with a visit from his grandchildren. He was very proud of his family. He was pre-diseased by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Larsen of Fort Worth, his son in law, Garry Sweeney of Aledo, grandchildren Caroline, Sarah and William Sweeney, and his brother, Jerry and wife, Ann of Seabrook, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Boyd’s memory to the Trinity Christian Academy Athletic Program – Basketball, 4954 East I-20 Service Rd. S., Willow Park, TX 76087. His daughter would like to express her gratitude and love to all the friends who supported her, to the health care professionals who showed him such care and compassion over the years, and to all who prayed. God is good, all the time.
