  1. I served with Billy on board the USS CANOPUS. I was proud to call Billy one of my closest friends.
Billy was always fun to be around. I’ll never forget his unique laugh, His stories, his antics or his resolute loyalty. We spent many days on the gun deck eating pecans he had just received from Ma Myrick. Billy was the only person who could console and quiet my first born daughter when she would cry.
Billy was a great man. I’m sure he will be missed by all who knew him.
RIP my friend. Your shipmate Mark Near
