Dr. Cynthia Miller
Dr. Cynthia Miller, affectionately known as “Doc” or “Cindy,” was an extraordinary woman whose ambition and determination led her to achieve remarkable success throughout her life. Born with an unyielding spirit, Cynthia’s journey began with her decision to drop out of high school and earn her GED. Her relentless pursuit of education led her to attain a Master’s degree in Law/Public Administration and, later, a doctorate in Philosophy. Dr. Miller made history as the first female police officer in Jamestown, New York, where she demonstrated resilience after being wounded in the line of duty. She was not only a trailblazer in law enforcement but also an expert grant writer for foundations and government agencies, and a devoted professor with certification in evaluation by the U.S. Department of Education. Her passion for teaching was evident, as she loved to share her knowledge with anyone eager to improve their life and make a difference. Her commitment to volunteering and sharing her personal life experiences inspired many, while she also cherished the small moments of relaxation—such as indulging in pedicures. Her first love, however, was her animals. No matter the challenges in her life, Dr. Miller always ensured her beloved pets—Sophie, Fritz, and Ollie—were cared for, prioritizing their well-being above all else. Dr. Miller’s resilience was most evident in 2017 when she was diagnosed with cancer. Despite doctors giving her only six months to live, she refused to accept the prognosis. Instead, she took it upon herself to research and apply holistic health methods, defying the odds and extending her life by eight additional years. These years were filled with new adventures, cherished memories, and a continued commitment to learning and living life fully. Dr. Miller leaves behind her “Kid,” Angel Black, granddaughter Leah Fields, as well as an uncle, cousins, nieces, nephew, friends, and her beloved animals. In her own words, Dr. Miller would want us to celebrate her life: “Do not cry while I am gone, instead celebrate as I have conquered all odds during my time on earth.” Dr. Cynthia Miller’s legacy will live on through the many lives she touched with her knowledge, love, and unwavering strength.
