Que puede decir uno de su mama…. born in a time and place when females had little voice and not many rights. So, she was careful, followed rules, quiet, and kind. She infrequently rebelled but did nonetheless in her own way…. riding her bicycle to church in pants comes to mind. A generous, genuinely selfless woman, of whom we are lucky to have been born. Luz Maria Sommers Sanchez (Germain) was a librarian at heart, a lifelong learner who taught us the value of engaging our minds. Our mom was the smartest woman we have ever known. She was curious about everything. She had a passion for genealogy, tracking her family through the history of Chile. She also knew world history and kept up with current world events. She was fluent in English, Spanish, and French. Mom was also a talented accordion and piano player. Luz Maria Sommers had eight children with Juan Miguel Germain and is also survived by 18 grandchildren. She was our favorite mom in the whole wide world. We couldn’t have had better. She taught us joy through music and gave us all of her, a stranger in a strange land that opened the world for us.

Oh, my dear sweet mother….with her passing my heart began to slowly contract but as the happy thoughts and memories of her began to spring up my heart once again grew in size, remembering God was and is holding her. So I see her beautiful smile even brighter than before as she walks along her beloved ones, and even more importantly, with God.
Nos veremos querida madre. La quiero con todo mi corazón. Le agradezco por darme tanto amor.
