Kim Marie Hunter Kopriva
Kim Marie Hunter Kopriva, 64, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Kim was born the youngest daughter of James Hunter and Gislina Bjorg Andresdottir, on April 25, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her childhood in Chicago and Elk Grove Village, Illinois. As a child, Kim loved to read up in trees. After graduating from Elk Grove Village High School in 1978, she pursued work in the restaurant business. She spent her free time with her family and friends, cooking, snow skiing, enjoying the outdoors, and reading. Kim was very family oriented, and loved growing up with her brother and sister-in-law, her sister and all of her nieces and nephews. In 1988, Kim met Ronald Kopriva in Schaumberg, Illinois. They loved snow skiing, white water rafting, traveling, and eventually were married in Hawaii in 1990. Ron had two children from a previous marriage, Kris and Kerri, who Kim adored as if they were her own children. By 1992, Kim and Ron had two daughters, Katharine Alexandra, 1 1/2 years old, and Veronica Marie, 3 months old. They moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska, where Kim raised her daughters in their 110-year-old home that Kim loved. It became her favorite place to live. In 1995, Kim and the family moved to Mansfield, Texas. In 1997, Kim and Ron had a son, Sean Thomas. Kim being the concerned parent she was, became involved with the PTA and other school activities with the children. As the children grew up and became old enough to be self-sufficient, she decided to embark on a career with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) working at the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport. She worked there for over 10 years and had many memorable times. She would come home and recall some of the famous people she had encountered during her day of work such as Linda Blair from the Exorcist, Gene Simmons from Kiss, Diana Ross from the Supremes, James Franco, and more. She had a special fondness for the times she would be put on special assignments to assist planes full of veterans or service men and women, either coming to or going from the airport. She was even selected to go to Washington, DC during one of the inaugurations of the newly elected president of the United States. Over their 34 years of marriage Kim and Ron saw Kerri get married to Todd Elkei in 2008, and have three children, Jorie, Aiden, and Teegan. Katie married Dan Lombardo in 2013, and had a son, Koa, her grandson in 2019. Kris married Teresa Do in 2017 and the birth of their son, Khylan in 2023. She also enjoyed seeing Sean get married to Miranda Berry in 2019. In 2021 Kim retired from TSA, and spent her time with Moose, her teacup Yorkshire Terrier, cooking, quilting, reading, and spending time with her grandson. She made several special quilts for each of the family members. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and made a pilgrimage back to Iceland to visit her Icelandic family members there. She loved to travel and enjoyed her time at the beach which was her happy place to forget about the frantic world and enjoy the peace and quiet of the sand and surf. Kim was predeceased by her parents, James and Gislina Hunter. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her daughter Katie (34), son-in-law Dan and grandson Koa Lombardo, daughter Veronica Kopriva (32), her son Sean (27) and daughter-in-law Miranda Berry Kopriva, her sister Jane Hunter, her brother Jim Hunter and his wife, Lynne, and her nieces and nephews. Per Kim’s wishes, no service will be held.

  1. Kim was loved by so many people. She was a very loving, friendly, and thoughtful lady. We worked together at TSA, and she always made our jobs easier with her positive attitude. She treated everyone she met as a friend and always had kinds word for others. She will be missed very much, especially by me. My sincere condolences to her family.

  2. We are so sorry to learn of Kim’s passing. She had such a rich, full life with Ron and the children — I know their hearts must be broken. What a wonderful legacy she leaves.
