Ardeth Vandercook, 92, of Willow Park, Texas, died peacefully Thursday, September 5th, following an extended illness. Born and reared in Chicago, Ardeth was the daughter of Richard and Margaret Greiss, and sister of Richard Greiss, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Gibbs (Vi) and David (Kathy), six grandsons and ten great-grandchildren. Ardeth spent most of her life in the mid-west where she worked in a variety of service and retail jobs, and was active in community service and social activities. She enjoyed fishing, painting, quilting, lapidary, ceramics and related creative arts, and while living in Wisconsin volunteered as a clown with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. In the 1990s Ardeth moved to Texas where she continued rock-hunting and was a member of several quilting clubs. The joy of her live was her family, whose photos adorned her walls and about whom she loved talk with her friends. A memorial service will be held in Willow Park on September 27, with a private inurnment in a family cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
