Johnnie Lee Davis was born on July 23, 1952, in Lamesa, Texas, and died on August 30, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, from complications due to leukemia. Johnnie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sally, his son Bill, stepson James Nace (Sanja), and grandchildren Lilly, Jack, and Mimi. He also leaves behind his sister Mary Ann (Rickey), and several nieces and nephews. Johnnie was the fourth child born to Carrol Jackson Davis and Nettie Venona Davis (Holmes), following his brother Jackie Wayne and sisters Judy and Mary Ann. After the untimely loss of Carroll when Johnnie was just a baby, the children were raised by their beloved mother, Venona, in Mineral Wells, Texas. Johnnie attended Mineral Wells High School (class of 1970), graduated from Texas State Technical College in Waco in 1973, and was beloved by any and all who met him. There was no occasion for which he didn’t have a story or a joke, always told with that little gleam in his eye that made people want to gather around and listen. He was, above all, a people person who made friends everywhere he went, be it when he owned a service station in Watauga, Texas, during the decades he ran bass fishing tournaments all over the United States, his time in the oil and gas industry, or most recently, building docks on Lake Granbury, where he resided for the last 40 years and could often be found after-hours taking Sally for boat rides. Johnnie’s pride were his sons, Bill and James, and his grandchildren Lilly, Jack, and Mimi. Spending time with them and his wife, Sally, was his favorite hobby, closely followed by drag racing, golf, and many auto, boat, and home improvement projects. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Harris Methodist Hospital for their excellent care during the last several years. Johnnie thought of his seventh floor friends as family. The family also extends sincerest appreciation to Dr. Harris Naina, who never gave up on Johnnie and allowed us all to make more memories with the man we loved. A Celebration of Life will be held on 9/13/24 at 5:30 pm | Grissom’s – 9524 Camp Bowie W, Fort Worth, 76116.
