Mary Helen Franklin Rollins
Mary was born to Jo Ann Weatherly Smith and Thurston Odell Boone on September 28, 1935, in Gainesville, Texas. She passed away on July 25, 2024. Mary Helen was one of 11 siblings. Donald Thurston Boone, James Randall Boone, Elaine Hogan, Clifford Boone, Suzie Knight, Patsy Robertson, Larry Smith, David Smith, BJ Boggs, and Janice Carr. She married her High School sweetheart, James Edmond Franklin, Jr on September 28, 1953. After Jim served time in the military and attended college, they moved and settled in west Texas. They had 3 daughters, Teresa Kay Vencil, Belinda Gail Curtis, and Suzanne Franklin, and spent the next 20 years raising their family in Odessa. They were married 28 years when Jim passed away in 1981. Mary spent many years as a housewife and volunteering as a Girl Scout leader. But after Jim’s passing, she began working for the Permian Basin Girl Scout Council. She later moved on to working for Gulf/Chevron, as an office assistant, until she retired. In 2000, Mary re-married to Robert “Bob” Rollins, of Odessa. They spent years travelling and spending time camping in their 5th wheel. In 2010 they decided to move to the Ft Worth area to be closer to family. Mary loved her dogs, Mitzi and Muffin, and spoiled them rotten. She was very social, enjoying her friendships, having conversation, playing games, dancing and always looked forward to activities and a good cup of coffee, no matter what time of the day. Unfortunately, Mary’s life was greatly affected by diabetes and glaucoma, losing most of her vision despite having many surgeries and years of treatment. Mary is preceded in death by both spouses, her parents, and three of her brothers, Donald Boone, James Boone, and David Smith. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Vencil and husband, Greg of Houston, Belinda Curtis and husband, David of Arlington, and Suzanne Franklin of Arlington. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel Vencil and wife Leanne, Timothy Vencil, Adam Vencil, Chris Curtis, Brittany Rainey and husband Nate, Abbey Youngblood and husband James. She had twelve great grandchildren, Connor Youngblood, Caleb Zwaska, Cambree Youngblood, Charlie and Corie Youngblood, Joseph Youngblood, Anne Youngblood, Devin Youngblood, Addison Rainey, Avery Rainey, Adeline Vencil and Olivia Vencil. Suggested memorials can be made to the Glaucoma Foundation, the Diabetes Foundation, or to a cause of your own choosing. A graveside service and burial will be held in Odessa at Sunset Memorial Gardens on September 16th 2024 at 11:30 am. Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E. I20BL, Odessa TX 79762
