Linda Haskovec Pickard (of Ennis, Texas)
Linda Kay Haskovec Pickard passed away in her sleep very early in the morning of August 26, 2024, in Ennis, Texas, age 82. She was born on February 9, 1942, in Ennis, and was the second of three children born to Charles and Mary Haskovec. Linda grew up on a farm and graduated from Ennis High School, Class of 1960. After high school, she attended Navarro College, subsequently getting her B.A. from Stephen F. Austin University, and her Master’s and PhD in English from Texas Woman’s University. She taught college English for approximately 30 years and eventually came back to Ennis, living on the family farm where she was raised. Of all the books she read, her favorite by far was the Bible, she wore out a few of them and took notes all of it. She is survived by her son, Richard G. Pickard, and her brothers, Charles Haskovec and Kenneth Haskovec and sister in law, Sandy Haskovec. During her life, Linda never spent a day in the hospital, except when her son was born, and she was active and had a full day right up until a few hours before her death. Her family is planning a Catholic mass to celebrate her life with the time and location to be announced later.

  1. Charles and Ken,
I am so saddened to hear of Linda’s
unexpected death. From what l read , Linda was never really ill. Quite a shock .
She was a very talented woman . I enjoyed my visits. However, it had been quite a few years since I last saw Linda.
    May she rest in peace.

    1. Sunday she was pretty busy all day from early morning to after 10 pm. Then she said she was tired and went to bed.

I checked on her sometime after midnight and she said she was ok but tired, and when I checked again about 8 am, she had passed away.

  2. Charles and Kenny I’m so sorry to hear the news. I so looked up to her as a teenager. Thought she hung the moon. So enjoyed our Labor Day weekend visits. So wanted to grow up to be like her. Prayers to the family.
