Myrtle “Ann” Stanfield
April 25, 1937 – July 30, 2024
Myrtle “Ann” Stanfield passed peacefully from this life into eternity with her Lord and Savior on July 30, 2024, in Fort Worth, TX. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Ann was born April 25, 1937, in Wayne County, MO to Sidney and Inez Crowley. She was the fifth of seven children. The family moved to Berkeley, CA when she was 12, and she graduated from Alameda High School in 1954. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Crowley and Inez V. Peters, her brothers Sidney, Arthur, Richard and Paul and her sister Rosemary Rugado. She was preceded in death by her firstborn, Thomas R. Imboden in 2017 and her youngest child, Charles E. Imboden in 2021. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Placher of Ohio, and three children; Ley Imboden Barnett, Shelley Lee (Michael) and Robert “Bob” Imboden (Patti), as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In 1954, Ann met and married Tom Imboden while he was stationed with the Navy in California. In 1957 he completed his service and they moved to St. Louis, along with their first two children. They were married for 27 years and had five children. Ann completed courses to earn her LPN in 1966. She resumed her education and was licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1976. Ann worked at Barnes Hospital (now BJC) for 23 years. She was very proud of her achievements and enjoyed providing care for others. Ann was a member of Riverview Gardens Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO for nearly 40 years. She also was an active member of Jerseyville Baptist Church for many years. Ann loved to roller skate, water ski, sew, read and garden, and passed many of these interests along to her children. She liked to dance and often would “bust a move” in the kitchen, much to her children’s amusement. Although she loved to sing, she often improvised with her own version, “doo-dee-doo” being a part of all lyrics. Having grown up poor, volunteering at the local food bank was a way for her to help others in need. While living in Illinois, Ann founded a local Red Hat Society, The Sassy Lassies, and was elected Queen, of course! She organized and planned events and participated in community projects and parades. Ann loved to travel, having visited over 40 countries. She was proud of her Irish heritage and visited Ireland twice! In the 70’s she took a trip to Israel with her mother, and they rode camels in Egypt to see the pyramids. She enjoyed many cruise trips, happily packing her “cruise clothes” which included lots of sparkly sequined tops and dresses! Ann’s competitive spirit was well-known, particularly when it came to ping pong, card games and most especially fishing! She sought to catch the biggest or the most fish on family camping trips, as well as deep sea fishing in Hawaii. She visited Hawaii seven times. Ann will be deeply missed by her sister, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank. Or maybe even volunteer! A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Sunday September 1, 2024 at 1000 O’Day Park Drive, O’Fallon, MO 63368. We will be at the Family Pavilion. All are welcome. Look for the red & purple balloons.
