Mary Sunshine Fly Kolwyck, age 94, formerly of Germantown Tn. for 43 years, passed away on June 16, 2024 in Burleson, Texas with her family by her side. Mary Kolwyck was born on December 8, 1929, in Humboldt, TN to the late Curtis and Lillie Ann Luckey Fly. Mary was a secretary and accountant before becoming a homemaker. She managed the finances of the family and her husband’s tire store. In her early 70’s, she went to work for Target. When asked why she should be hired, her reply was “I don’t need to work, I want to work”. She started as a greeter, but quickly became a friendly and fast cashier. She received many Outstanding Team Member awards and was proud of her success. Mary, as well as her husband, was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Germantown, TN. She had a deep faith which was important to her and carried her throughout her life. Mary will always be remembered as a loving wife, the best mom, a wonderful friend and a loving caregiver. She unequivocally lived for her family, and they were always her priority. Mary was the quiet, yet unspoken leader in the house. Mary loved sports and you definitely knew her favorite teams based on how strongly she rooted for them. She enjoyed being around and talking with people, had a curiosity about things, and never lost her desire to learn. She loved holiday cards. She saved all she received and wrote notes on them. Mary was an avid reader and loved to get lost in her books. Mary loved life and enjoyed being outdoors, but preferred to be in the shade only. She was a chef and a gardener. She loved to share her knowledge with all that asked her. Her life was greatly valued by all. She gave unselfishly and generously to others, and had unyielding patience. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Bobby Dean Kolwyck Jr, her four brothers: Tom Fly, Robert Fly, Joe Fly, Jimmy Fly and two sisters: Emily Fly and Betty Fly Turner. She is survived by her husband of 72 years: Bobby Dean Kolwyck Sr, her daughter Diane (Arnold) Miranda, son Jeffrey Martin Kolwyck, grandchildren: Jared Kolwyck (Kait), Justin Kolwyck and Alex Miranda, great grandchildren: Jameson Kolwyck and Stella Kolwyck. She also leaves a sister Nancy Murdock. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared via this site.
