Ruth Ann Owens passed away December 9, 2023, in Flower Mound, Texas at the age of 84. Born Ruth Ann Henderson on January 15, 1939, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Sidney and Ruby Henderson, Ruth Ann had two older brothers. Being their little sister truly shaped who she was and contributed to her love of football. She especially loved the Texas Longhorns. Ruth Ann went to school in Sulphur Springs where she met her group of life-long friends. It was there that she also met her high school sweetheart, Roy Owens. They married when they were 19 years old, moved around a bit, and eventually settled in Gilmer, Texas. There they spent 40 beautiful years raising their children and creating a loving home where everyone felt welcome. Ruth Ann worked as a legal assistant and had many dear friends in Gilmer that she cherished. In 2008, just weeks after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Roy passed away. Shortly thereafter, she retired, returned to Sulphur Springs, and picked back up with her childhood friends as if she had never left. Ruth Ann was known for her kind spirit and beautiful smile, which she was quick to share with everyone she met. She was also known to be eternally optimistic, witty, and always sipping an iced cold Coke. Her friends and family will deeply miss her, and they will forever cherish the precious memories shared with her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Owens. She is survived by her sons Russell Owens(Jodi), Mike Owens (Lisa), and daughter Melinda Brannen (Jeff). She leaves behind eight grandchildren whom she adored – Sara, Christine, Jade, Bryn, Dylan, Gabrielle, Price, and Lillian, as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Lou Durham and Eva Lee Henderson, and many nieces and nephews. The family will host a Celebration of Life honoring Ruth Ann on a later date, yet to be determined. Cremation arrangements by Lone Star Cremation.

Russell, Mike, and Melinda,
We’re so very sorry to learn this news. Your mom was always so cheerful, kind and optimistic, always interested in our lives and families. The Christmas gatherings at the Owens’ were something I always looked forward to, catching up with your mom and dad. Godspeed to Ruth Ann.

James Frank and I are truly sorry for your loss. Ruth Ann was truly beautiful inside and out , and she was a heck of a cheerleader. Wasn’t Don her brother? Those of us who grew up in Sulphur Springs are grateful for all the memories we share.
I went to high school and church with Ruth Ann. I truly held her up on a pedestal and deservingly so. She was so sweet to everyone, as well as witty and so much fun to be around. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family!
