Elpidia King passed Sunday, October 29, 2023 in Plano, Texas. Elpidia, aka Pide, aka Monte, graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing. As a nurse, she assisted the doctors with patients, worked in surgery and also as a midwife. After marriage, Mamacita “Monte” became a full time homemaker, fiercely devoted, creating a loving, warm, and hug-filled space where learning and values were encouraged.Being born during the Great Depression, “Monte” was a self taught diy’er. She could do anything from upholstering furniture, sewing clothes to making delicious meals and desserts from scratch. She epitomized self reliance and care. Loving, creative, and tenacious, she approached life with determination and humor. She re-entered the workplace in her 50’s learning new skills to maintain her independence. Monte was a social butterfly; she enjoyed greeting and meeting people, she volunteered at St. Mark’s and sang in the choir. This strong woman was an exemplary role model for her children and grandchildren. Our chula and choo choo will be sorely missed. How glad are we that she may now have rest and peace and joy as she reunites with loved ones. Memorial services pending. “ So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Is 41:10 ‘That sounds real good.’
