Patrick J. O’Connell
Patrick O’Connell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 8, 2023. Patrick was born on May 29, 1942 in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Rita O’Connell. He was a loving brother to his sister Norita O’Connell. On February 8, 1964, Patrick married his high school sweetheart Suzanne Maloney. They had three children, Caryn Kolodziej (Michael), Michael O’Connell, and Stephanie O’Connell (Damien Zak). Patrick was the loving grandfather of Brendon Kolodziej and Clara Kolodziej. He was like a father to his sisters-in-law Maureen Maloney, Patti Maloney and the late Margaret McGreal as well as his brother-in-law the late William Maloney. Patrick had a distinguished career for over 25 years as a commodities trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. His keen insight was sought after by his clients and his family fondly remembers him stopping on the side of the road to check how the farmer’s crops were doing on so many family road trips and vacations. Patrick’s children describe him as “the best dad a kid could ask for.” When he retired, he enjoyed being near his grandchildren and they shared an incredibly special bond. He also loved spending time with Suzanne, his loving wife for nearly 60 years. His love for her will endure. Patrick was a diehard Cubs fan, with a heart of gold, and he will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you would like to donate in memory of Patrick, please make your gift online to KT’s Kids ktskids.com or the Angelman Syndrome Foundation angelman.org.
