Calvin Davidson
Calvin Davidson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 29, 2023, three days after his 88th birthday. Born and raised in a family of six in Chickasha, OK, Calvin joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Shortly after leaving the military, he continued his work with the government in the Defense Logistics Agency at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. He married Delores Vaughn, also of Chickasha, in April 1960. They took their vows “until death do us part” very seriously and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in April of this year. They had two children, Greg in 1961 and Sheri in 1964. They became Texans in 1967 when they pulled up roots and moved to Dallas, where Calvin continued his career in Defense Logistics stationed at Texas Instruments, among other locations. He retired in 1990 after 34 years of service. A 53-year resident of Garland, he loved reading and watching old westerns. He had a great sense of humor and would comically imitate the classic crooners, such as Dean Martin, with his tone-deaf singing much to the delight of his family. He was a tireless supporter of his children’s activities, whether it was participating in a pinewood derby, attending a father-daughter banquet, watching the Mighty Ram marching band under the Friday night lights, or simply figuring out the “new math” to help them with their homework. His children have fond memories of camping trips to Lake Texoma and road trips to visit extended family in Oklahoma, as well as vacations to the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, Mesa Verde, Pikes Peak, San Antonio’s Riverwalk, the Alamo, Aquarena Springs, Austin, Disney World, and Florida. He was a true original who will be constantly reminisced about and endlessly missed by his loved ones. Calvin is survived by: his wife, Delores Davidson; his son, Greg Davidson of Sachse, TX; his daughter, Sheri Davidson (Rob) Pettit of Aliso Viejo, CA; two grandchildren, Bridget Pettit (Hal) Hundley of Centennial, CO and Derek Pettit of Honolulu, HI; his namesake great grandson, Beau Davidson Hundley of Centennial, CO; his brother, Lawrence (Wanda) Davidson of McCloud, OK; his sister, Florence Spears of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca Beth Hefner and Thomas William Luther Davidson of Chickasha, OK, and his brother, Jim Davidson of Friendswood, TX. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Integrity Residential Care in Richardson, TX for taking such good care of Calvin in his final days. Cremation arrangements by Lone Star Cremation.
