It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our beloved Michael “Mike” McBride. He was called on by our Creator, and died peacefully at home surrounded by family in Mansfield, Texas on June 28, 2023 at the age of 82 years old, after a short battle with cancer. Although he left before we were ready, the time that he spent in our lives was memorable and full of joy. We will miss his fun, loving and easy-going personality. He will remain with us through all the memories and laughs. Mike was born on November 7, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. He spent his childhood with his parents and siblings, and created unforgettable memories. As his sisters would say, Mike kept the house jumping in a good way. He loved playing music with his band mates, family and cousins. When he turned 22, he enlisted with Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1962 before being able to serve due to medical reasons. He was also an adventurous, and outgoing person and even hitch hiked his way to California from Michigan and back once. He had a deep love for driving and at a young age he enjoyed driving; he got his CDL and drove city trucks working locally to start, and later on drove tourist and charter bus traveling to different states. He then transitioned to truck driving where he worked with various companies one of them being ForwardAir, and later on became owner operator. Mike met his wife through a contact ad in one of the newspapers he picked up at a truck stop one time. They became penpals for years, and after continuous writing and a visit to the Philippines to finally meet Emily, they got married in 1994. He further delighted the roads with his wife and daughter Teri who was born soon after his marriage. Mike was awarded a Safe Driving Award for having no accidents in his 40 years of driving. He was also an amazing cook; he sure could make a delicious meal, such as Shepherds Pie, Spaghetti Stefano (he named his recipe) Chili and Beef Stew; even better, dessert, such as Butterscotch Pie, Lemon Meringue Pie and Pineapple Upside down Cake. But, if you ask him what his greatest accomplishment was, it wasn’t that he was a great cook, that he travelled the United States or his Safe Driving Award; it was becoming a dad to his son Tim and his daughter Teri, who both loved him beyond measure. Mike made it clear for the records that he was a dad, not a father. He loved being a dad and he was a cool dad too, he made it seem so easy, its what he did best and he always did everything with his children’s best interest in mind, always. Mike retired in 2003 when his wife Emily passed away; he moved back to the Philippines with his daughter. He spent time traveling to different parts of the Philippines with his daughter and friends and moved back to Rizal in 2014, where the house him and his wife had built in the 90’s stood. He loved spending time working on his vehicle and the house whether it was major/minor fixes or improvements, he was a master at playing checkers, loved to read the news, watch movies with his daughter, spend time and cook for his father-in-law Ruben, sister-in-law Eve and brother-in-law Gerald, close neighbor and family friend Marlo Medina, and his nephews JB and Harry. In 2019, Mike moved back to the United States where he reunited with his son, sisters, daughter and family. He was able to put his great handyman and mechanic skills to use, and he loved helping out with any projects family or friends had, he even refurbished an old boat he bought and made it look and feel like brand new. He worked until February 2023 as an auto parts delivery driver; he loved his job and the people he worked with. He was religious and would go to church every Sunday, and during his spare time, he indulged in completing puzzles or taking a good nap, specially in the winter season. He also loved to joke around, make those around him laugh and happy in his own special way. Mike moved back to Dallas where his daughter and son-in-law took care of him after his health started to decline in April. He was later diagnosed with Extensive Small Cell Lung Cancer in June. He was strong, tenacious and fought valiantly; his daughter held his hand until his last breath. He is survived by his sisters Yvette Bruckner, Yvonne Lemke, and Claudette Garavaglia; sister-in-laws Karen McBride, Eve Perez, Elena Del Rosario, Rubeliza Eustacio, Elma Jimenez; brother-in-laws George Lemke, Bill Van Dyke, Gerald Perez, Harlan Bruckner, Valentino Del Rosario, Jessie Jimenez, Richard Eustacio; his cousin Albert Look; close friends Maricel Loterte and Stan Mardeusz; his daughter Teri Elis McBride and son-in-law Ray Hart; his nephews Justin and Jeff McBride, Matt Akuna, Shawn Campbell, Dan and Nick Garavaglia, Billy and Scott Van Dyke; and his nieces Kim Akuna, Denise Phenicie, Chrissy Lemke, Hillary McBride, Adrienne and Kristen Garavaglia, Tracy and Amanda Van Dyke; all his grandchildren, as well as countless extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Theresa McBride; wife Emily McBride; brother Pat McBride; brother in-law Rob Garavaglia; father-in-law Ruben Rementizo; sister-in-law Evelyn Rementizo; and his son Timothy McBride. We’d like to thank UT Southwestern for the excellent care provided during his admission, specially to Dr. Schwalk. To Bristol Hospice for the support during his final days, and most importantly the McBride, Hart, Rementizo and Loterte family, close friends and friends who have extended their support emotionally, physically, financially and spiritually. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Michigan. Everyone who knew Mike, knew how much of a great, kindhearted and friendly person he was. We are heartbroken to have lost him
